The 12 Days of Christmas for Couples

by | Dec 11, 2020 | Marriage, Spiritual Connection

During the Christmas hustle and bustle it’s easy to forget to invest in our marriages.

So to be proactive for our relationships, we’ve put together a little challenge! To really get into the spirit of this challenge, it will help to have The 12 Days of Christmas playing in your head. And there’s more! If you’re crazy like some of us and enjoy a challenge within a challenge, see how many references to Christmas songs you can find below. Let’s have some fun blessing our spouse and others this Christmas!

We wish you a Merry Christmas! We thought we would send you a little gift, and since it’s too hard to send a hippopotamus for Christmas in the mail… we went in another direction — a gift of time together, companionship, appreciation and generosity.

We’ve made a list, we’ve checked it twice, and we are sending it out with love and good cheer. Since there’s simply no place to go due to restrictions, join us in the 12 challenges below, because after all, it’s Christmas time in the city.

On the first day of Christmas…

My true love said to me… 3 things they appreciate about me.

On the second day of Christmas…

My true love wrote to me… an acrostic* poem of my name.
(A poem in which the first letter of each line spells out a word.)

On the third day of Christmas…

My true love did for me… a household chore just for me. Take time to do a household
task/chore that is usually your spouse’s responsibility.

On the fourth day of Christmas…

My true love gave to me… three favourite Christmas memories. Prepare some hot drinks, sit down and answer 3 of the following questions:

  • What was your favourite Christmas tradition as a child?
  • What is your favourite Christmas treat?
  • What is your favourite Christmas movie or song?
  • What was the best thing about Christmas 2019?
  • What does Christmas mean to you?

On the fifth day of Christmas…

My true love and I… took time to bless others. Bring a meal or a treat to someone in need.

On the sixth day of Christmas…

My true love and I… saw all the sparkle and glow which brought a twinkle to our eyes. Do a Christmas lights tour around your town… don’t forget the Christmas music and hot drinks.

On the seventh day of Christmas…

My true love and I… played our favourite board or card game.

On the eighth day of Christmas…

My true love gave to me… a Christmas card telling me I’m loved. Write a love note to your spouse.

On the ninth day of Christmas…

My true love gave to me… a trip down memory lane. Look at some old photos and reminisce together.

On the tenth day of Christmas…

My true love hid on me… my favourite treat. Buy your spouse a favourite candy/treat and hide it somewhere that your spouse will find it.

On the eleventh day of Christmas…

My true love and I… invited some friends to an online Christmas service.

On the twelfth day of Christmas…

My true love and I… shared our thoughts on the Christmas story. Read the Christmas story from Luke 2:1-20 together, pick a person from the story, and then each describe what it would have felt like to be that person.

We wish you a fun adventure, we wish you a fun adventure, we wish you a fun adventure… creating happy memories. Have yourself a merry little Christmas from the FamilyLife Canada Team!
